Congress is working on a third economic relief package for businesses and industries impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health clubs, studios, and fitness equipment manufacturers were some of the first industries mandated to close by state governments, and are bearing the economic brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Similar to restaurants, most clubs and studios are small businesses with large numbers of employees who only receive compensation when they show up to work.
There are almost 40,000 clubs and studios in the United States that service more than 64 million Americans. Altogether, health clubs and studios generate more than $30 billion in annual revenue. Despite these impressive numbers, many clubs and studios are small businesses, disproportionately impacted by the disruption COVID-19 is causing to the economy.
Any relief package afforded to other industries must also include health clubs, studios, and fitness equipment manufacturers.
IHRSA is asking Congress for the following:
Include Health Clubs, Studios and Fitness Suppliers in Recovery Fund
Add $32 billion to aid health clubs, studios, and their suppliers to any recovery fund that compensates restaurants and other early affected businesses.
Ensure Business Interruption Insurance Covers COVID-19
Pass regulations allowing the coverage of COVID-19 under business interruption insurance policies through a federal guarantee.
Temporary Mortgage and Lease Forbearance
Pass regulations allowing for temporary waivers from fees over late mortgage, lease, or rent payments.
Access to Zero-Interest Loans
Access for zero-interest loans to make payroll and sustain operations
