View this post on Instagram Ten times out of ten, I am elevating the heels for a squat. ? I'm not a biomechanist but I'd say that this is a damn good looking squat for a tall guy with some long levers (and a savage mustache). We're training the squat...and therefore I'd like his strength and ability to maintain a good position in the squat to be his limiting factor & not mobility. ? Heels up allows his knees to slide forward without getting anywhere near end range ankle range of motion therefore maintaining force into the heel of the foot throughout the squat. Easier access to depth will allow for much for focus on rib cage/pelvis management. ? Everyone at @bodybyboyle squats with heel boards. I'm experimenting with some higher angle boards like this one, especially for taller folks, but it's a no brainer for us to allow our clients to squat more easily and therefore get stronger with less constraints. Mobility work has it's place. Foot flat to the floor has it's place. For most folks, most of the time, they will squat better with heels elevated. So that's our standard. ? @movementasmedicine @michael_boyle1959 @certifiedfsc @perform_better A post shared by Damion (@damion_perry) on May 10, 2019 at 10:19am PDT
