NEVER A LINE AT THE FREE WEIGHTS
Bruce Kelly
The idea for this article came to me recently after a workout at a hotel gym. As usual I was by my lonesome at one end of the facility while everyone else that came in got on their cardio piece of choice to do their imitation of a hamster or a lab rat. . . . keep reading

Perform Better, Long Beach, 2010
Laree Draper
We've all heard what an outstanding job Perform Better does with their conferences--and you can add my voice to the cheers of others. Our "A.C.L." Problem in Womens' Sports
Brett Klika C.S.C.S.
There is a problem in womens' sports in America. If you're involved with female athletics, I'm sure you've heard of the alarming rate at which women are getting injured. Of particular concern are disproportionate knee injuries in women vs. men. Currently statistics indicate that women tear their Anterior Cruciate Ligament at 8 times the rate that men do. This is the dreaded "ACL" injury we often hear about. . . . keep reading

Perform Better -- A Life Changing Experience
Justin Levine
The three days of August 6-8 could definitely place in the top five weekends of my life. Yes, the Perform Better team over delivered. I have been to the previous 4 summits and they were good but this one was a "GAME CHANGER". I first want to give a huge shout out to the Perform Better crew and especially Chris Poirier for putting this all together. The presenters were world class, literally. I was fortunate enough to bring two of my young coaches with me and to see their eyes light up when learning from and meeting the likes of Mike Boyle, Robert dos Remedios, Todd Durkin, Alwyn Cosgrove and Thomas Plummer was priceless. Their energy was BIG throughout the entire weekend. . . . keep reading

Talking in Color
Brett Bartholomew
As coaches and trainers, we all understand the importance of being able to verbally convey information to our athletes or clients. Whether this information is on exercise technique or in reference to the correct execution of a skill or drill that will be performed, all of us have our own unique toolbox filled with various coaching "cues" designed to help the athlete to better understand the movement or skill. But how do we really know which type of coaching cues are most effective in terms of helping the athlete truly learn the movement? . . . keep reading

Expanding on the Joint-by-Joint Approach, Part 3 of 3
Gray Cook
Ribs, vertebrae and lots of muscle and fascia crisscrossing the front and back of the thorax cause thoracic stiffness. We don't inherently have a lot of mobility there, but we need all we can get. However, stiffness isn't just something we need to get rid of. Stiffness is there for a reason. Biological mechanisms that move very well in childhood will develop stiffness following an injury or following repetitive bad mechanics over time. If the body doesn't stabilize correctly, it will figure out another way to get stability: it's called stiffness. . . . keep reading
